Our first PPTP webinar — The Essential Ingredients in Building Productive Parent/Teacher Partnerships — was moderated by CGLR Chief Learning Officer Yolie Flores and headlined by Dr. Karen Mapp, Senior Lecturer at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, and Kristin Ehrgood, CEO and Board Chair of Flamboyan Foundation.

Dr. Mapp shared insights and lessons from the first five years of the Dual Capacity Framework and how these lessons informed Version 2 of the Framework. Key updates to the Framework include a more explicit statement of “The Challenge” and a re-prioritization of the “Essential Conditions,” elevating “relationships built on mutual trust” to the top of the process conditions. In the area of “Capacity Outcomes,” we see a visually powerful graphic depicting the symbiotic relationship between educators and families. Version 2 is available on the new Dual Capacity Framework website (see link below) and includes examples, tools, videos and resources to support communities in their implementation efforts.

Ms. Ehrgood shared Flamboyan’s commitment to family engagement, starting in Washington D.C., in partnership with the District of Columbia Public Schools. Their dedication to understanding the research, conducting landscape analysis and hearing from families, advocates, educators and others helped inform Flamboyan’s “carefully executed strategy in D.C.,” aligning their work to the five key roles families play to accelerate learning. With a deep emphasis on teacher training and development, Flamboyan trains more than 2,000 educators each year. Flamboyan’s REAL Family Engagement effort emphasizes a focus on four essential pillars: Relationships, Experiences, Academic partnerships and Leadership.
