Parents are their children’s first and most important teacher and as children enter elementary school, CGLR believes they should be enlisted as a school system’s most powerful partners. Yet schools’ parent engagement efforts often fall short. Fortunately, there are multiple organizations focused on leveraging the power of parents and supporting them in establishing productive partnerships with schools. Earlier this year, Bellwether Education Partners published a report that profiles several “parent power” organizations and surfaces lessons that are broadly applicable to organizations interested in expanding their reach and impact on behalf of parents, students, and communities. In this special rebroadcast session, attendees will hear from Bellwether’s Alex Cortez, an author on the report, as he reviews what was learned from their case studies and explains how local communities can best use the information to advance their own support of parent power and build a movement of parents and schools partnering for student success. Cortez is joined by both national and local leaders of parent-facing organizations who will discuss what works when it comes to leveraging the power of parents to make a real impact on students’ equitable learning recovery.
