Constructing a Deep Reading Brain: An Emerging GLR Opportunity

December 1, 2020 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

This webinar, co-hosted by the Rollins Center for Language & Literacy at the Atlanta Speech School, Foundations, Inc., and the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading helped to launch a four-state partnership to increase awareness of and access to the Rollins Center Cox Campus and its rich resources available to practitioners working to ensure that more low-income children are reading proficiently by the end of third grade.

Moderated by Dr. Ryan Lee-James, Director of the Rollins Center, participants learned about the science and research behind how children develop language and literacy and how the Cox Campus, through coaching and supporting the creation of the language and literacy ecosystem, is helping to ensure that every child thrives. Panelists offered a walk-through of the Cox Campus website, which is filled with prenatal through infant, toddler to pre-K, and K–3rd grade supports and resources for practitioners and for families themselves. These resources include free interactive, video-based courses; printable resources for classroom, virtual and home learning; implementation guides and coaching and literacy resources for all child-facing professionals; tailored content for birth to 3rd grade teachers and families; tested and research-based practices; and so much more. And did we mention that these tools and resources are all FREE?!!

Participants also learned about Georgia’s Language Nutrition initiative, which serves as a bright spot of the Cox Campus and a model for the four states — Arizona, Colorado, Maryland and North Carolina — that will participate in this initial phase of the partnership.

  • Cori Cain, Director of Partnerships, Rollins Center for Language & Literacy, Atlanta Speech School
