$22B for Afterschool & Summer: Realizing the Opportunity for Communities

In this April 20, 2021 Learning Loss Recovery Challenge webinar moderated by Rhonda H. Lauer, President and CEO of Foundations, Inc., attendees heard Kylie Wheeler, Project Manager of Children’s Funding Project, and Terry K. Peterson, Senior Fellow of Furman University’s Riley Institute, discuss the $22 billion of American Rescue Plan Act funds set aside for afterschool and summer enrichment and strategies for investing the monies at the local level and in school-community partnerships.

Organizations currently providing successful afterschool and summer learning initiatives in Baltimore, Boston and Wilmington, Delaware, provided commentary following Wheeler and Peterson’s presentations. Candice Buchanan of SummerCollab, Stacie Evans of Young Audiences of MarylandLara Ohanian of Baltimore City Public SchoolsChris Smith of Boston Afterschool and Beyond, and Toni Wiley of Sportsmen’s Tennis and Enrichment Center, discussed their efforts to ensure access to these funds and approaches to expand partnerships and programs.
