Wanda Mial has been a leader in the non-profit, governmental, and philanthropic sectors throughout her career. She brings to Global Citizen her extensive experience and expertise in designing and implementing social service programs, as well as managing organizational and systems change. Her former roles include senior program associate for child welfare at the Annie E. Casey Foundation; chief executive officer of Women’s Christian Alliance (WCA); chief deputy commissioner of Philadelphia’s Department of Human Services; and, deputy director of Congreso de Latinos Unidos.
Through her work, Wanda has utilized her skills in program design, management coaching, community mobilization, and strategic reform planning to enhance, strengthen and streamline child and family- serving systems and organizations.
As Program Director at Global Citizen, Wanda will work with residents, community leaders, and organizational partners, to ensure that the educational needs of young children are met at the grassroots level. Her role in partnership with the Read By 4th initiative is targeted toward community mobilization and the recruitment and support of neighborhood Reading Captains. The goal is to dramatically increase the number of children who are reading at grade level by 4th grade.
A life-long Philadelphian (and diehard Phillies fan), Wanda earned her Masters degree from the University of Pennsylvania’s Fels Institute of Government, and a Bachelors of Arts degree from Amherst College. She is also a proud graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Girls.
