Mary Cathryn Ricker is a board-certified English/language arts teacher currently serving as executive director of the Albert Shanker Institute. Before coming to ASI, Mary Cathryn was Minnesota’s commissioner of education. She has also served as the executive vice president of the American Federation of Teachers and president of her local union, the Saint Paul Federation of Teachers, Local 28. Her teaching has been featured in the Annenberg Institute’s Write in the Middle professional development series, as well as the Minnesota Writing Project, and professional publications.
