Senior Program Officer The Kresge Foundation

Jonathan Hui is a senior program officer at The Kresge Foundation. He supports Kresge’s strategies to strengthen neighborhoods in Detroit that advance opportunity, quality of life and socioeconomic mobility for its children and families. This includes Kresge’s support for a transformational, cradle-to-career campus on the site of the former Marygrove College, school-community partnerships including community schools and neighborhood engagement, investments in educational facilities and public spaces, and Hope Starts Here: Detroit’s cross-sector, interdisciplinary early childhood partnership. He has served as a Senior Advisor at Detroit’s public school district, focusing on its whole child commitment and facilities strategy, and previously as director of strategy and planning at Michigan’s state-run reform school district, where he was involved with leading talent strategy, organizational strategic planning and systems design. Jonathan started his career as a social studies teacher at Denby High School in Detroit, Michigan, as a Teach for America corps member and later led community initiatives on behalf of the school, where his work focused reimagining the school as a community hub and an anchor for community development in school’s neighborhood. He earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University.
