Janet Carter is Chief Executive Officer of Coaching Corps, a nonprofit that believes every child needs a caring and consistent adult outside the home who guides them to believe in and become their best selves. Coaching Corps recruits and trains college students and community members as volunteer sports coaches, and places them at afterschool programs that serve low-income communities. The coaches are supported to serve as mentors and role models while fostering social-emotional skills critical to success in school and in life. Prior to joining Coaching Corps, Janet was Vice President of Futures Without Violence, formerly the Family Violence Prevention Fund, where she helped grow the organization from a local nonprofit to a national leader in policy, social norm change, and institutional reform aimed at ending family violence. She was recognized by the Annie E. Casey Foundation for her national leadership in developing interventions for kids exposed to the trauma of violence in the family. Janet serves on the Board of Step-Up Tutoring, and was Chair of the Children and Families Leadership Development Fellowship National Network for four years. She lives in San Francisco and was raised in England, Wales, and Detroit.
