Ginger Young is CEO of Book Harvest, a children’s literacy nonprofit based in Durham, NC. Ginger founded Book Harvest in 2011 to put book ownership and home libraries within reach of every child, starting at birth, and to provide literacy support for parents. In just 10 years under Ginger’s leadership, the organization grew to a staff of 19, a board of 15, and an operating budget of $2.9 million. More than 1.7 million new and gently used donated books were harvested by children in Book Harvest’s first decade, helping them build their home libraries and nourish their vocabularies and imaginations. Her goal is that all parents feel supported in their role as their child’s first teacher and most heartfelt advocate.
Ginger is a senior consultant for the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading, a member of the National Advisory Council for the nonprofit social enterprise First Book, and a founding member of the North Carolina Public Education Task Force. She also serves on the Board of Directors of Hill Learning Center.
