Esther Quintero is a senior fellow at the Albert Shanker Institute. Her work focuses on conducting and synthesizing research on schools as organizations, teachers’ social capital, diversity in the teaching workforce, and the sociology of the classroom. In July 2014 Quintero launched the Social Side of Education Reform initiative, which highlights the social-relational aspects of teaching and of school improvement. Quintero is the editor of Teaching In Context, which will be published by Harvard Education Press in April 2017. Quintero is co-PI in a multi-year research project, funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, that will develop a novel instrument to capture rich evidence about teachers’ professional activity, the characteristics of the contexts in which it occurs, and teachers’ affective responses to their work. She has a B.A. from the University of Seville (Spain) and a Ph.D. in sociology from Cornell University (Ithaca, NY).
