Erica Holmes-Ware is a bold, visionary leader and fierce advocate for educational equity and social justice. Rooted in her South Side Chicago upbringing and inspired by her father’s legacy as a Chicago Public Schools (CPS) teacher, Erica brings an unwavering commitment to dismantling systemic barriers and creating transformative learning environments for children in marginalized communities. A dynamic and child-centered strategist, Erica expertly integrates Culturally Sustaining Pedagogy and Emancipatory School Leadership to drive lasting impact. Her work is defined by her relentless pursuit of equity, ensuring all students—especially Black and Latinx children—receive the resources, support, and opportunities they deserve. Erica’s
distinguished career spans the full spectrum of education, from classroom teacher to school principal, to district leadership and development coach. Across every role, she has consistently delivered transformative results, leading strategic initiatives that foster antiracist and culturally responsive practices in schools and educational organizations nationwide. She holds a B.A. in Criminal Justice from Loyola University Chicago and an M.A. in Educational Leadership from Columbia University. Erica is currently pursuing her Doctorate in Educational Leadership at Columbia University, deepening her expertise to continue disrupting inequitable systems.
