Bonnie Gettys is the founding President of the Barry Community Foundation. The work is a perfect fit for a person who values community! Under her leadership, the foundation has grown from an initial investment of $350,000 over more than $45M under her watch. Bonnie’s loves where she lives and has taken an active role in community building. Bonnie’s passion is public speaking and training, traveling all over the United States to teach recruitment, retention, membership, volunteerism, leadership and rural fund development to communities. She believes in the gifts of service and leads by example. Bonnie holds a certificate as a Certified Fund Raising Manager from Indiana University/Purdue University’s Center on Philanthropy, and is a Certified Home Town Competitiveness trainer. Bonnie serves as co-chair of the Michigan Rural Philanthropy Affinity Group (managed and staffed by the Council of Michigan Foundations) and is chair of the Rural Partners of Michigan and Michigan Rural Council (managed & staffed by the Community and Economic Development Association of Michigan [CEDAM]).
