Beth Schiavino-Narvaez, Ed.D. serves as the Chief Academic Officer for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA), headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia. As the Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Schiavino-Narvaez sets the strategic vision and direction for the instructional framework and educational approach to DoDEA’s academic program and is a key lever to accomplish DoDEA’s five key goals centered on excellence. Prior to joining DoDEA to lead the Center for Instructional Leadership (CIL) in the Pacific Region, Dr. Schiavino-Narvaez served as a life-long educator and leader in various capacities and multiple school systems. Before joining DoDEA in September 2016, she served as superintendent of the Hartiord, Connecticut Public Schools. Her past experiences include: Deputy Superintendent for School Support and Improvement for the Montgomery County, Maryland Schools; Assistant Superintendent/Chief Academic Officer in the Springfield, Massachusets Public Schools; and principal in Pitsfield, Massachusets. Dr. Schiavino-Narvaez began her career as a Fulbright scholar teaching in South Korea, and served in the Peace Corps in the Republic of Kiribati. Dr. Schiavino-Narvaez earned a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Pennsylvania State University, and master’s and doctoral degrees in school leadership and the urban superintendency from Harvard University.
