Andrew Maxey, Ph.D.

Andrew Maxey is obsessed with a few issues in education: effective grading practices, middle-level practice informed by deep knowledge of young adolescence, and educational leadership. He is especially vocal about the complexity of teaching and the ongoing deprofessionalization of teaching. Andrew has been a professional educator since 1999, teaching Language Arts in three states and holding a litany of administrative positions. He seeks to align all his work with the empowerment and uplift of teachers – which he considers the best hope for serving students in any meaningful way. The largest part of his time on the clock is spent leading his district’s Summer Learning work, which received NSLA’s 2023 Excellence in Summer Learning Award.
