Jenna Lawrence Conway

State Superintendent of Public Instruction

Virginia Department of Education

Jenna Conway is Virginia’s Superintendent of Public Instruction and previously served as Chief of Early Learning and Specialized Populations at the Virginia Department of Education. Over the past eight years, she has led Virginia’s efforts to strengthen its birth-to-five early childhood system, expand access to high-quality learning, and improve outcomes for children from early childhood through K–12

With more than a decade of leadership in state education agencies, Conway has driven transformative reforms in both Louisiana and Virginia. She helped unify early childhood programs, improve classroom quality, and expand access for families. As Virginia’s first Chief School Readiness Officer, she built a nationally recognized early childhood model that doubled the number of young children served with public funding and established an integrated data system linking early learning to K-12 outcomes.

A Virginia native and graduate of Charlottesville City Schools, Conway holds degrees from Yale University, the Stanford Graduate School of Business, and the Broad Education Residency. She is also the proud mother of three children who attend Richmond City Public Schools.
