SUMMARY:Building the Sturdy Bridge: New Evidence and Everyday Practice for Kindergarten Transitions
DESCRIPTION:October 20\, 2026\nBuilding the Sturdy Bridge: New Evidence and Everyday Practice for Kindergarten Transitions\n \nJoin the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading for a Kindergarten Matters session on the transition into and through kindergarten. \nNew research from NWEA\, Behind at the Starting Line\, finds that the reading and math skills of students at kindergarten entry strongly predict whether they reach proficiency by third grade. For students who start kindergarten in the bottom 20%\, the odds are just over 1 in 10. But researchers stress that these trajectories aren’t predetermined\, and early intervention can change them. \nA State of the Field Research Brief from the Center on Early Learning Success and the Buffett Early Childhood Institute treats transitions as an ongoing process rather than a single event\, and highlights the relationships\, communication\, alignment\, and coordinated supports that create continuity from preschool through third grade. \nPanelists will pair these findings with perspectives from educators and leaders who make the transition work every day. They’ll also preview NWEA’s forthcoming brief on bright spots and discuss how shifts in the early childhood landscape may shape what comes next for young learners and their families. \n \n Register Now!

SUMMARY:Leveraging Teacher Voice for Literacy Systems Change: The Pennsylvania Playbook
DESCRIPTION:October 27\, 2026\nLeveraging Teacher Voice for Literacy Systems Change: The Pennsylvania Playbook\n \nSystems change efforts often exclude teachers—those who are closest to students and often charged with implementing new initiatives and policies. What if\, instead of doing systems change to teachers\, we put teachers at the center of policy and practice change? \nIn this session\, representatives from Teach Plus PA and their partners will share about how teachers are leading a broad coalition of stakeholders to make progress across three drivers—equitable school funding\, a strong and well-prepared educator workforce\, and early literacy policy and practice—toward the goal of making Pennsylvania the fastest-improving state in the country in early literacy. Hear about both their successes and challenges in advancing a multi-faceted\, teacher-led\, bipartisan advocacy agenda\, connecting policy to practice\, and tracking progress across all 500 school districts in Pennsylvania. \n \n \n Register Now!
