A National Conversation on AI in Education: Policy, Privacy, and Practice with Randi Weingarten

Join CGLR for a timely conversation with Randi Weingarten, President of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT) and one of the most influential leaders in public education today, exploring the national AI policy issues and safety standards most likely to shape school governance and classroom practice in the years ahead.

Through a moderated discussion with Weingarten, participants will gain insights into the newly announced National AI Safety & Privacy Standard for Schools, examining the goals, challenges, and implementation of the emerging framework. The conversation will examine the “what, why, and how” behind the agreement, examining strategies for safeguarding student data, promoting responsible innovation, and ensuring technology serves core educational values while navigating contrasting local strategies — from classroom generative AI moratoriums to large-scale workforce readiness partnership.

Following the interview, a panel of education leaders representing superintendents, state education chiefs, principals, district administrators, and other key stakeholders will share perspectives from the field, highlighting areas of alignment, remaining questions, and implementation opportunities for their members.
